Cooperation with the University of Darmstadt

Cooperation with the University of Darmstadt

msg systems and the University of Darmstadt will be working more closely in the future. Dr. Stephan Frohnhoff, a member of the Board of Directors at msg systems ag, has initiated a corresponding collaboration. As part of this collaboration msg systems will promote a line of studies called cooperative information technology or KoSI for short. The program combines university studies with practical phases. In addition, msg systems will host guest lectures, on-the-job training days, as well as educational courses.

The first activities will be held spring semester of 2011: On May 10, 2011 Dr. Frohnhoff will speak on the use-case-point method and effort estimation for projects in the industry as part of an interdisciplinary colloquium. This is a topic he personally studied intensively while writing his dissertation. He also developed the use-case-point method to a level where it could be applied in actual business. msg systems uses the method to estimate the effort required for major individual software development projects in the public sector.

An on-the-job day is also planned for spring semester 2011, where students in the program will visit msg systems' location in Frankfurt. This visit will give students the opportunity to gather information on how different topics are realized in the business world, from SOA to mobile applications and test management.

A series of lectures have also been planned for fall semester 2011/2012, which will be offered as a block course titled "Software Engineering in Industrial Practice". The course will address topics related to project management, architecture and industrialization in project realization. Internship positions will be available at msg systems as part of the collaborative program starting fall semester.

The collaboration with the University of Darmstadt is designed to be long-term and further measures are already in the planning. "A close collaboration with science and research is very important to us and both sides profit from it, whether the students or we as a company" states Dr. Stephan Frohnhoff.
